At Little Scallywags Day Nursery, we understand how important it is to develop good oral hygiene habits from an early age. Healthy teeth help children to eat, speak and smile confidently. Establishing positive routines early on can help prevent tooth decay and support lifelong dental health.
We make learning about oral hygiene fun, engaging and age appropriate across all our rooms, from babies through to preschool.
Through stories, songs and nursery rhymes, toothbrushing demonstrations, role – play with dolls and toothbrushes, and activities exploring healthy foods, children begin to understand how to care for their teeth. We encourage conversations about visiting the dentist and why brushing our teeth every morning and evening is so important.
By making oral hygiene part of our everyday learning, we help children develop independence, confidence and healthy habits that they can continue at home. We have been lucky enough to work with local dentists and family support schemes where we can offer free toothpaste and brushes at nursery, ensuring parents and children don’t have to go without. Working in partnership with families helps us give every child the best possible start towards a healthy and happy smile!
